DES MOINES, Iowa — 21-year-old Quentin Robert Billings, who was involved in an early morning car crash Sept. 28, died due to sustained injuries Wednesday, Des Moines police announced.

Authorities said it is the 13th traffic-related fatality in Des Moines this year.

At close to 4 a.m. Sept. 28, DMPD officers responded to the 2200 block of Army Post Road to investigate a single-car crash with injury.

After arriving at the crash, first responders mechanically extricated Billings from his vehicle and he was transported to MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center where he remined in critical condition until his death Wednesday.

The preliminary investigation revealed Billings was driving his car eastbound on Army Post Road where it left the traffic lane and slid along the raised median before striking a utility pole.

Excessive speed and failure to maintain control were cited as potential contributed factors to the crash.

DMPD says the crash is still under investigation.
