Des Moines police identify man killed in crash on Army Post Road

The crash was Des Moines' second traffic-related fatality of the year, according to the Des Moines Police Department.

DES MOINES, Iowa — One man is dead after a motorcycle and car crashed into each other on Army Post Road in Des Moines.

Des Moines police say they responded to a "report of a crash with injury" at approximately 2:14 p.m. on Army Post Road. Upon arrival, first responders found that a motorcycle and an SUV had crashed into each other.

The motorcyclist, 50-year-old Johnathon Rogers of Des Moines, was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Police say he later died at the hospital.

No one else was injured in the crash.

After a preliminary investigation, police believe the motorcycle was driving eastbound on Army Post Road at a high speed. The SUV turned from northbound SW 11th Street to eastbound Army Post Road when the motorcycle crashed into the back of the SUV. The motorcyclist was then thrown off the motorcycle.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing, and the identity of the deceased driver has not yet been released.

This is the city's second traffic-related fatality of the year, coming just a day after the first fatal crash of the year.
