DES MOINES, Iowa — Six people were injured in a Wednesday morning crash, Des Moines police said in a press release.
Police and fire personnel responded to a report of a crash with multiple injuries on Bloomfield Road just before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
When they arrived, first responders found a two-car crash.
"At least one person had been ejected, and other persons needed mechanical extrication, from involved vehicles," the police department said in a release.
The six injured were taken to local hospitals. As of 2:50 p.m. Wednesday, four of those patients "remain hospitalized in conditions ranging from critical to serious," according to police.
Witness statements and evidence at the scene indicate a Dodge Charger was driving southeast on Bloomfield Road at a high rate of speed when another car entered the road via a private driveway, causing the collision.
Police believe excessive speed, failure to yield and driver impairment may have contributed to the crash.
The incident remains under investigation.
