DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department says a 6-year-old boy died after being hit by a car at Water Works Park on Sunday afternoon.
DMPD responded to the park around 3:30 p.m. Sunday on calls of a vehicle-pedestrian crash. The boy was found inside the parks Fleur Drive entrance "with critical injuries."
He was transported to Blank Children's Hospital where he later died.
Police said this is the ninth traffic-related death of 2024 and the third involving a pedestrian.
