DES MOINES, Iowa — Two motorcyclists are in the hospital and another driver is in custody after an overnight crash, according to the Des Moines Police Department.
Police say one motorcycle crashed into another on 2nd Avenue around 1:30 a.m. on Friday, injuring two people. A third person involved in the crash is now in jail for operating under the influence.
"Without the careless driving and impairment, it’s most likely all three would have made it home safely," DMPD shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.
2nd Avenue between Douglas and Euclid avenues were temporarily closed as crews responded to the scene.
At this time, police believe the injured motorcyclists are expected to survive.
