IOWA, USA — After months of paying more at the pump, gas prices are on the decline in Iowa.
According to GasBuddy and AAA, the average price for a gallon of gas in Iowa is approximately $4.56 as of Thursday, down six cents from the previous week.
Prices vary city by city. AAA says the approximate average prices on July 7 for a gallon of gas based on Iowa metro locations are as follows:
- Ames: $4.69
- Cedar Rapids: $4.52
- Council Bluffs: $4.49
- Davenport: $4.50
- Des Moines: $4.47
- Dubuque: $4.70
- Iowa City: $4.67
- Sioux City: $4.62
- Waterloo: $4.56
While the decrease may come as a relief to some Iowans, prices are still significantly higher than they were at this time last year. A gallon of gas in Iowa cost $2.95 on average just a year ago, GasBuddy notes.
Iowa isn't the only state seeing a downward trend in gas prices. As of Thursday, the national average for a gallon of gas is $4.75, down 11 cents from this time last week.
Gas in Iowa is the 17th-lowest price in America, AAA reports. South Carolina has the cheapest gas at $4.26 and California has the most expensive at $6.18.
