The collision involved two cars which each held two people.

ANKENY, Iowa — The Polk County Sherriff's Office has identified a juvenile that was killed in a Sunday afternoon in Ankeny near Cottontail Creek Montessori School.

The victim of the crash has been identified as 10-year-old Maxwell Harry Amenson of Polk City.

Just after 1:30 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to the crash at the area of the 7400 block of NW Fisher Lane after they received a call about a two-vehicle accident.

The accident is reported to have been a head-on collision with one vehicle traveling north and the other south. Each car had two people inside.

Both occupants of the northbound vehicle were taken to area hospitals by ambulance. The driver was in serious condition, Amenson in critical condition before arriving at the hospital and being pronounced dead, the sheriff's office said.

Both people in the southbound vehicle were treated for minor injuries at the scene of the crash, and were released.

Northwest Fisher Lane was closed in both directions just north of the Cottonwood Recreation area.
