1 dead after Wednesday crash near Hamlin, Iowa State Patrol says

​Early investigations indicate 73-year-old woman was driving west on 220th Street when she failed to yield at a stop sign and was struck by an oncoming semi-truck.

HAMLIN, Iowa — One person is dead following a crash near Hamlin Wednesday afternoon, according to an Iowa State Patrol crash report.

The Iowa State Patrol was called in to assist in responding to a crash at the intersection of Highway 71 and 220th Street at approximately 2:23 p.m. Wednesday. 

Early investigations indicate 73-year-old Sheryl Zinke of Audubon was driving west on 220th Street when she failed to yield at a stop sign and was struck by an oncoming semi-truck.

Zinke was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. 

The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured.
