DES MOINES, Iowa — The driver of a semi-truck is in custody after a Tuesday morning vehicle chase, Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Alex Dinkla told Local 5.
Law enforcement responded to multiple reports of a semi-truck tractor trailer dragging a chain and creating sparks on I-80 near Underwood around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Troopers located the semi near Avoca, but when they attempted to make a traffic stop, the driver did not pull over, Dinkla said.
Various agencies used stop sticks to deflate the semi's tires, but the driver continued toward Dallas County.
The semi eventually stopped at the Dallas County Weigh Station around 8:10 a.m., where he was taken into custody.
Travel on I-235 eastbound was temporarily restricted as the pursuit neared Des Moines, according to Des Moines police. Normal travel resumed around 8:30 a.m.
The driver was transported to a hospital for evaluation, according to Iowa State Patrol. It is currently unclear how the driver had access to the semi.
Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
