DES MOINES, Iowa — A multi-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 35 near Corporate Woods Drive has resulted in serious injuries and a significant traffic delay Thursday evening, according to Iowa 511.
Sgt. Alex Dinkla of the Iowa State Patrol confirmed with Local 5 that the crash occurred near Saylor Township due to a wrong-way driver going north in the southbound lanes, which led to a head-on collision. A total of four cars were involved in the crash.
As of 6 p.m. Thursday, officials said it was not known how many people have been hospitalized or injured due to the incident, but serious injuries have been reported.
An approximately 25-minute delay is expected for the southbound lanes, according to Iowa 511 at about 7 p.m.
Traffic is reportedly being directed to use the southbound right shoulder to bypass the scene of he crash as all lanes are closed just north of the mix master.
