1 dead, 1 injured in multi-vehicle crash on I-35 Thursday

The roadway was reopened at approximately 8 p.m. Thursday.

DES MOINES, Iowa — A multi-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 35 near Corporate Woods Drive resulted in serious injuries and a significant traffic delay Thursday shortly after 5 p.m., according to Iowa 511.

The roadway reopened at approximately 8 p.m. and delays quickly dissipated.

An Iowa State Patrol crash report said that 91-year-old Minnesota resident Paul Jacques was travelling the wrong way in the I-35 southbound lanes which led to a 39-year-old Des Moines resident swerving into the concrete barrier.

Jacques then collided with a van driven a 78-year-old Ankeny man. That man's vehicle went airborne and then struck a West Des Moines resident's SUV.

The ISP said Jacques was taken to the hospital and died. The Ankeny man was injured.

The crash is under active investigation.
