MADISON COUNTY, Iowa — Iowa State Patrol announced Thursday that Mandy Wendland, 45, of Nebraska was killed at approximately 7 a.m. after being struck by a van while walking along Interstate 80.
According to ISP, Wendland and another pedestrian were walking along the westbound side of I-80 near Dexter when she entered the roadway and was struck by a Ford Transit van.
Wendland's body landed in the north ditch west of where the collision occurred and the van came to a stop on the north shoulder.
The Omaha native was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
