Polk County Sheriff's Office identifies 2 people killed in crash near Polk City

Investigators say they are still working to determine the cause of the accident.

POLK CITY, Iowa — The Polk County Sheriff's Office has identified the two people who died in a crash near Polk City Friday. 

The department responded to an accident at the intersection of NW 44th Street and NW 126th Avenue at around 2 p.m. Friday. 

When they arrived, deputies found the two cars involved in the accident. One vehicle was in the southeast ditch, while the other was on the east of the intersection in a tree line. The second vehicle was fully engulfed in flames, according to the sheriff's office. 

Based on preliminary investigations, the second vehicle was driving east on NW 126th Avenue when it collided with the other vehicle traveling south on NW 44th Street. 

The southbound vehicle was occupied by one adult female who was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The eastbound vehicle which went up in flames was occupied by two people who both died on scene. The two victims were later identified as 25-year-old Trey Ridgeway of Ankeny and 23-year-old Jayden Hughes of Clear Lake.

Investigators said they are still working to determine the cause of the accident.
