Polk County Sheriff's Office: Slater man killed after leaving road, driving through fence

The driver was pronounced dead on the scene, and officials say nobody else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

POLK CITY, Iowa — The Polk County Sheriff's Office said man is dead after driving his GMC Yukon off the road and through a fence on Wednesday.

A caller first reported seeing a white SUV sitting in a field off of NW 126th Avenue around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Law enforcement believes the driver left the road while traveling westbound outside of Polk City, drove into the south ditch and through a fence before stopping in a nearby field. 

The sheriff's office on Thursday identified the driver as 63-year-old Timothy Alan Simmer of Slater.

Nobody else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
