POLK CITY, Iowa — The Polk County Sheriff's Office said man is dead after driving his GMC Yukon off the road and through a fence on Wednesday.
A caller first reported seeing a white SUV sitting in a field off of NW 126th Avenue around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Law enforcement believes the driver left the road while traveling westbound outside of Polk City, drove into the south ditch and through a fence before stopping in a nearby field.
The sheriff's office on Thursday identified the driver as 63-year-old Timothy Alan Simmer of Slater.
Nobody else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
