Story County Sheriff's Office: Nevada man dies in crash at uncontrolled intersection

Officials responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of 590th Avenue and 210th Street at approximately 5 p.m. Tuesday.

STORY COUNTY, Iowa — One person is dead following a crash in rural Story County Tuesday evening, according to the Story County Sheriff's Office.

Officials responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of 590th Avenue and 210th Street at approximately 5 p.m. Tuesday.

When they arrived, they found one of the drivers unconscious. The man, who was later identified as Mark Cunningham of Nevada, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Two dogs in Cunningham's vehicle survived the crash and have been transferred to a local veterinary clinic.

Following an investigation, the sheriff's office believes Cunningham was traveling west on 210th Street when his car collided with the passenger side of a semi-truck traveling north through the intersection

"We can significantly reduce accidents occurring at uncontrolled intersections by using extra caution and following right-of-way rules," the sheriff's office said in a press release.
