CARROLL COUNTY, Iowa — Two people are dead following a single-vehicle crash on Highway 71 north of Carroll on Monday morning, according to Iowa State Patrol.

41-year-old Joshua Shelton, of Carroll, was driving a truck south on Highway 71, south of 150th Street, just before 8 a.m. Monday. Shelton passed a car that was also traveling south, but when he returned to his lane, he lost control of the truck. The vehicle entered the ditch and struck an electric pole before coming to rest.

Shelton and the truck's other occupant, identified only as a "female juvenile", died of their injuries.
