DMPD announces they will resume use of traffic cameras

This comes as a result of recent legislation.

DES MOINES, Iowa — The City of Des Moines Automated Traffic Enforcement program will resume at 12:01 a.m. Thursday morning, the Des Moines Police Department announced.

Traffic cameras within the city will be submitting citations as early as Thursday morning while mobile units will not be redeployed until July 1.

Coinciding with recent legislation involving automated traffic enforcement, DMPD submitted their application for permit to the Iowa Department of Transportation.

"The City of Des Moines is in process and on course to meet the requirements of the legislation on or before the designated date of compliance" Sergeant Paul Parizek said in a statement.
