State Patrol: Motorcyclist dead in Clarke County crash after speeding on I-35

According to Iowa State Patrol, the motorcyclist lost control and hit a sign post.

CLARKE COUNTY, Iowa — Iowa State Patrol announced Friday that James Paul Qualls, 38, of Des Moines died after hitting a sign post and being thrown from his motorcycle shortly before 1 p.m.

Qualls was driving northbound on I-35 where witnesses say they saw him speeding past other vehicles, according to the State Patrol.

He then took exit 33 towards Osceola, but lost control and hit a sign post. He was subsequently thrown off the motorcycle and into the ditch.

Qualls was transported to the Clarke County Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
