DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines International Airport plans to expand its catalogue of nonstop flights this summer as American Airlines announces daily nonstop flights to New York's LaGuardia Airport (LGA).
Starting June 2, American will offer a flight to LGA that departs at 6:30 a.m. CST every day.
This will make it the second airline at Des Moines International to offer nonstop flights to LGA, alongside Delta.
“New, nonstop service is a win for passengers and a win for our state,” said Des Moines Airport Authority Executive Director Kevin Foley. “Connectivity is essential for a vibrant economy; this new service demonstrates the growing demand for leisure and business air service in Central Iowa.”
The daily flights will be on an Embraer ERJ-175 and transport up to 76 passengers per flight. According to the American website, tickets on the jet will run passengers upwards of $400 per ticket.
“American Airlines is thrilled to connect Des Moines International Airport to New York’s LaGuardia Airport this summer,” said Philippe Puech, American Airlines director of domestic network planning. “This new daily flight brings our service from DSM to six destinations this summer. We’re excited to offer customers more ways to experience all that New York City has to offer and provide local residents with additional access to American’s global network.”
American Airlines also offers nonstop service from Des Moines to Charlotte, N.C. (CLT); Chicago, Ill. (ORD); Dallas, TX (DFW); Phoenix, Ariz. (PHX); Washington, DC (DCA) and some seasonal service to Miami, Fla. (MIA).
