Boone County Sheriff's Office: School bus drives off road, tips over with approximately 15 kids inside

According to the Boone County Sheriff's Office, there were approximately 15 minors on the bus, with their ages ranging from 5 to 15 years old.

BOONE, Iowa — At least 11 children were taken to the hospital — one by ambulance — following an early morning school bus crash Thursday, the Boone County Sheriff's Office says.

The United Community School District bus drove off the side of the road and overturned on its side on 205th Street in Boone around 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

The 49-year-old bus driver called 911 after the crash.

The kids evacuated the bus and were taken to a nearby house to stay out of the rain. A Boone Community School District bus arrived to transport them from there.

The sheriff's office said one child was taken to an area hospital by ambulance, and 10 others were transported for medical evaluation by the second school bus.

There were approximately 15 minors on the bus, with their ages ranging from 5 to 15 years old, the department added.

All the children have since been reunited with their families.
