DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Area Transit Authority (DART) plans to adjust some of its services while eliminating others shortly before Thanksgiving Day.

DART will eliminate its D-Line downtown shuttle on Sunday, Nov. 24. The shuttle's last day of service will be Saturday, Nov. 23.

Ridership on the D-Line shuttle has not increased like other routes since the pandemic, according to DART. In addition, DART says some funding for the shuttle is no longer available.

D-Line riders are encouraged to take other DART routes through downtown Des Moines, including Local Routes 1, 4 and 10 for service in East Village and Local Routes 11 and 60 for service on the west side of downtown Des Moines.

To reach the Iowa State Capitol directly, riders can take Local Route 1 or 4 and get off the bus along E. Grand Avenue between E. 9th Street and E. 12th Street.

DART is also adjusting Local Routes 4, 5, 15, 17, 52 and 74. Find details on each of those changes below:

  • Routes 4 and 5: Minor changes to help keep buses running on schedule.
  • Route 15: Changing to running hourly instead of every 30 minutes.
  • Route 17: Portion of route on 36th Avenue in Altoona moving to 34th Avenue SW to better connect route to Adventureland Drive.
  • Route 17: Changing schedule so trips route to either Altoona or Bondurant. Route will run every 45 minutes on Saturdays.
  • Route 52: Changing to running every 40 minutes on weekdays instead of 30. Minor schedule changing on weekends.
  • Route 74: Portion of route on 114th Street in Urbandale moving to 112th Street to improve safety.
