JOHNSTON, Iowa — High water levels and debris from recent storms have caused the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to shut down multiple parts of Saylorville Lake for safety.
Below is a list of closures:
- Cherry Glen Lower Boat Ramp
- Lower parking lot at Lakeview High Water Boat Ramp
- Oak Grove Beach Access
- Sandpiper Boat Ramp
- NW Jester Park Drive
- Lakeview Main Boat Ramp
- Neal Smith Trail from Prairie Flower Campground to Saylorville Lake Marina
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said these closures will stay in place until water levels are back under control and crews can clean up the area. According to Local 5's weather team, Saylorville is expecting peak water levels on July 6th. It’ll then probably take two weeks to get back to manageable levels which means closures might last a while.
This doesn’t mean you can’t use the lake at all. Not every section of the lake is closed.
Although the Lakeview High water boat ramp and Cherry Glenn upper boat ramps are open, the Army Corps warns that boaters should take extreme caution. They suggest wearing life jackets, going slower and not boating after dark.
Be aware of submerged structures and floating debris. Some debris, however, might be underwater so you won’t be able to see it.
