DES MOINES, Iowa — A flood watch is in effect tonight through Tuesday morning for portions of northern and western Iowa.
Heavy rainfall is expected to develop with thunderstorms moving in from Nebraska. Streaks of 1-3" of rain look likely, but a few locations rising into the 3-5" range are possible.
These heaviest amounts would likely lead to significant ponding and flash flooding. With the runoff, rises to local streams, creeks, lakes and rivers are to be expected.
Flooding is already occurring along the Des Moines River, and this may raise current levels.
While, Des Moines and Polk County are included in this watch, the threat appears most dynamic in other portions of Northern and western Iowa.
