How much rain fell in Iowa the second week of October?

Although nearly all of Iowa is dealing with drought, some beneficial rain fell in northern and eastern areas.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Although some areas received more than others, much of Iowa enjoyed beneficial rainfall over the last few days.

A strong low pressure system moved towards Iowa last Wednesday, and lingered around the Midwest region through the first half of the weekend.

Northern and eastern Iowa received more substantial rainfall in that time frame, while southern Iowa got less. 

These official National Weather Service totals account for all of the rain in Iowa since last Sunday, Oct. 8:

Since Jan. 1, Des Moines has received 21.75" of total precipitation, nearly 10" below the year-to-date average of 31.63". 

In October alone, Des Moines has picked up just over a half inch of rain, which is almost a full inch below average.

While the pattern looks more active in the long range, the prospect for meaningful rain over the next ten days is low once again.
