Don't bring out your spring wardrobe yet: cities across Iowa are gearing up for the potential of several inches of snow Wednesday night through Thursday.
The Local 5 Weather team anticipates approximately 4-7" inches of snow in Des Moines and areas south of the metro. Northern Iowa will likely receive lower snow totals thanks to incoming dry air.
In anticipation of the snow, a Winter Storm Warning has been issued for 9 p.m. Wednesday through 6 p.m. Thursday in most of southern Iowa.
For those along and just north of I-80, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the same timeframe.
The following central Iowa cities have instated snow ordinances in response to the inclement weather:

- Ankeny
- Bondurant
- Boone
- Carlisle
- Clive
- Des Moines
- Grimes
- Indianola
- Johnston
- Newton
- Norwalk
- Waukee
- West Des Moines

The city of Ames' snow ordinance goes into effect at 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Snow routes are marked by red and white signs, and vehicles must be moved from all other city streets.
The city anticipates the ordinance will continue until 10 p.m. Thursday but that could change, as ordinances in Ames generally remain in effect until streets are completely plowed and it has stopped snowing.
Ankeny's snow ordinances will go into effect at 11 p.m. Wednesday and remain in effect until Friday at 11 p.m.
No parking is allowed on all public streets, alleys and on-street parking within the city when the snow ordinance is in effect.
- No parking is allowed until the snow ordinance is officially lifted by the City.
- Parking in The District at Prairie Trail and Uptown Business District is prohibited from 2 – 6 a.m.
- Vehicles parked on the street during a snow ordinance will be ticketed $40 and may be towed.
Bondurant
Starting at 6 a.m. Thursday, Bondurant's snow ordinance will go into effect until further notice. Parking on main roads and residential collector streets is banned until the ordinance is lifted.
Boone's Emergency Snow Ordinance will go into effect at 11 p.m. Thursday for both business and residential.
Residents are asked to remove cars from city roads to make room for snow plows.
The city of Carlisle will begin enforcing a snow ordinance on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The parking ban is expected to remain in effect for 24 hours until snowfall has ceased.
All cars must be removed from streets and public parking lots.
The city of Clive announced a snow/ice ordinance Thursday morning. Public Works and Parks crews are conducting full snow removal on Clive streets. The city asks residents to move parked vehicles from city streets.
Vehicles can be moved back 24 hours following a winter weather event, according to the city of Clive website.
The city of Des Moines announced a snow parking ordinance Thursday morning. No parking is allowed on residential streets until they are plowed.

Drake, Carpenter, Sherman Hill and parts of the River Bend Neighborhood residents must park on the even sides of the street from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023.

The city of Grimes will be under a snow ordinance from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday. During the ordinance, no parking is allowed on city streets.
The city of Indianola's snow ordinance will go into effect at 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Under Indianola's snow emergency parking ban, residents are prohibited from parking on public streets or alleys. The ban remains in effect for 48 hours after the snow has stopped or until the streets are clear.
Johnston
Johnston's snow ordinance was in effect from 11 p.m. Wednesday to 5 p.m. Friday.
No parking was allowed on city streets during that time. Those who parked on the street may have received a ticket.
Snow removal operations were in effect in Newton as of 1:45 p.m. on Thursday. Street parking was not allowed until snowfall had stopped and streets had been plowed.
The snow ordinance was lifted Friday morning around 7:30 a.m.
A citywide parking ban is in from midnight to 6 p.m. Thursday.
All vehicles parked on public streets may be ticketed or towed.
A snow ordinance is in effect in Osceola beginning on Wednesday. The ordinance is expected to end Friday at 5 p.m.
Under the snow ordinance, there is no parking on streets, alleys or city lots.
Waukee's emergency snow parking ban is in effect as of 10 p.m. Wednesday and will last until 5 p.m. Thursday.
Vehicles are not permitted to park on any city street during the ban and drivers could face being towed and/or a $25 fine.
The emergency parking ban in West Des Moines will go into effect at 6 a.m. Thursday and remain in effect until 5 p.m. Friday.
No vehicles can park on West Des Moines city streets during the ordinance. Cars violating the ban could be towed and/or fined $50.
