LIST: Snow ordinances, parking bans in effect

As snow falls in central Iowa, some cities are putting snow ordinances and parking restrictions into place. Here's what you need to know.

DES MOINES, Iowa — The first snow of the season has arrived in central Iowa, and some city regulations are soon to follow,.

The Local 5 Weather team anticipated snow would be falling by evening on Saturday, leading to a potential 2-3" of snow in some parts of the stat.

In anticipation of the snow, a Winter Weather Watch is in effect for much of central and south Iowa beginning on Saturday and continuing through 8 a.m. Sunday.

The following central Iowa cities instated snow ordinances in response to the inclement weather:

  • Carlisle
  • Indianola

Carlisle

The city of Carlisle is enforcing a snow parking ban. The parking ban is expected to remain in effect for 24 hours until snowfall has ceased. 

All cars must be removed from streets and public parking lots.

Indianola

The city of Indianola's snow ordinance is in effect from 7 p.m. on Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday.

Under Indianola's snow emergency parking ban, residents are prohibited from parking on public streets or alleys. The ban remains in effect for 48 hours after the snow has stopped or until the streets are clear.
