DES MOINES, Iowa — For the second time in less than a week, Iowa was hammered with heavy snow and wind.

The combination of both led to widespread whiteouts and blizzard conditions on Friday afternoon and evening, especially for locations outside of city limits.

This new snow comes on the heels of a big storm system earlier in the week on Monday and Tuesday, and a round of light snow on Wednesday evening, which prompted snow squall warnings in central Iowa.

Prior to this week, Des Moines International Airport had only measured a few inches of snow. The total for the entire season is now up to 25.23". 22.5" of that snow has fallen just since the start of January.
