Central Iowa rainfall totals: Tuesday, June 4 and Wednesday, June 5

The Des Moines branch of the National Weather Service measured 2.25" inches of rainfall at its office in Johnston Tuesday.

IOWA, USA — Showers and storms swept across central Iowa Tuesday evening, bringing small hail, gusty winds and some heavy downpours. 

Here's how much rain was recorded in some central Iowa cities, according to Iowa Environmental Mesonet

  • Algona: 5.15"
  • Grimes: 4.90"
  • Waukee: 3.44"
  • Urbandale: 3.30"
  • Johnston: 4.00"
  • Paton: 5.00"
  • Ankeny: 3.70"

The Des Moines branch of the National Weather Service measured 2.25" inches of rainfall at its office in Johnston Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Des Moines International Airport only recorded 0.63". 

Heavy rainfall led to flooding in some areas of Des Moines, including E. University Avenue between E. 21st Street and Easton Boulevard. Des Moines police responded to the scene as several vehicles stalled after attempting to drive through the floodwaters.
