National Weather Service: 16 tornadoes confirmed in central Iowa from Friday, April 26

Six tornadoes — including those in Creston and Afton — were rated EF-2. Several others — such as Monroe and Mount Ayr — were rated EF-1.

IOWA, USA — The National Weather Service says 19 tornadoes hit central Iowa on Friday, April 26.

Six of them were rated as EF-1 and another six were EF-2.

On their website, NWS wrote, "Teams continue to evaluate damage. Additional tornado tracks and rating will be added in the coming days. A final tornado count will take days to a few weeks as we review radar data, examine hi-res satellite imagery, and look at videos."

The National Weather Service field office in Omaha also confirmed multiple tornadoes in Pottawattamie County, in western Iowa.

Gov. Kim Reynolds has issued a Disaster Proclamation for the following counties: Clarke, Crawford, Harrison, Mills, Polk, Ringgold, Shelby and Union.
