CLAY COUNTY, Iowa — President Joe Biden has approved Iowa's request for a Major Disaster Declaration in five counties affected by recent storms, Gov. Kim Reynolds announced Monday.
The declaration applies to counties in northwestern Iowa that have been significantly impacted by severe storms, flooding and tornadoes that have occurred since June 16. So far, severe flooding has damaged many homes and killed at least one person.
With Biden's approval, residents of Clay, Emmet, Lyon, Plymouth and Sioux County could be eligible for the FEMA Individual Assistance Program or U.S. Small Business Administration Disaster Loans.
Reynolds may request assistance for additional counties as severe weather persists.
Residents and business owners in the five covered counties can apply for assistance by registering online or calling 1-800-621-3362.
Homeowners, renters, businesses and nonprofits who were affected by the disaster may be eligible for low-interest disaster loans from the Small Business Administration. To apply, contact the SBA's Customer Service Center at 1-800-659-2955, email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov or visit this website.
