OSCEOLA, Iowa — After tornadoes rampaged central Iowa on Friday evening, one Osceola family is reflecting on the storm's destruction.
Sara Robinson recalls getting a call from her mom and feeling an immediate sense of dread. When she picked up, her mom broke the news: The house, and everything in it, was gone.
"Nothing can really prepare you for that," Robinson said. "Imagine waking up tomorrow morning, and literally everything you own is gone."
When Robinson arrived at the place where the house once stood, she was stunned by the damage.
"It's almost like the house just threw up, like everything just came up and landed in the yard," Robinson said.
Robinson described seeing her parents home, with her memories "thrown on the ground".
"Tornadoes don't care about your feelings," she said.
As Robinson and her family make sense of the tragedy, she feels grateful for community members who have rallied around her parents.
"The way that I make sense of it is how all the people from around here have really rallied around my parents and had them have this feeling of hope that they're going to get through this and be able to rebuild and continue to live in Osceola," she said.
