Travel not advised in Jasper County due to flooding, officials say

Jasper County EMA says it has filed a local disaster declaration with the state, requesting aid for affected communities.

KELLOGG, Iowa — Jasper County residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel Tuesday amid "unexpected flash flooding", according to the Jasper County Emergency Management Agency. 

In Kellogg, areas near the North Skunk River are submerged. Local 5's Meghan Macpherson observed Holmdahl Park is underwater as of Tuesday morning. 

Jasper County Supervisor Brandon Talsma said on Facebook flooding has also been reported at the Christian Conference Center in Newton.

Newton schools are closed on Tuesday due to flooding and road conditions. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for Jasper County until 12 p.m.
