Weather Impact Day: National Weather Service confirms tornado has touched down

A Heat Advisory is in effect for the bottom half of the state from 1 to 8 p.m. and the southwest corner of Iowa is in an Excessive Heat Warning until 8 p.m.

Monday, July 15 is a Weather Impact Day for heat and humidity in Iowa as well as the possibility of severe storms later in the evening. Stay weather alert and be proactive with water and frequent breaks indoors.

When & Impact

A Heat Advisory is in effect for the bottom half of the state from 1 to 8 p.m. and the southwest corner of Iowa is in an Excessive Heat Warning until 8 p.m. Heat indices could be as high as 110° throughout the day.

Rain and storms are expected to develop Monday afternoon. These storms have all hazards possible, but the main threat will be high winds with gusts up to 80 miles per hour.

The National Weather Service office in Des Moines did confirm that a tornado touched down Monday night.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for:

  • Davis County (until 8 p.m.)
  • Mahaska County (until 7:30 p.m.)
  • Monroe County (until 7:30 p.m.)
  • Poweshiek Conty (until 7:30 p.m.)
  • Wapello County (until 7:30 p.m.)

A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for:

  • Black Hawk County (until 11 p.m.)
  • Carroll County (until 10:30 p.m.)
  • Grundy County (until 11 p.m.)
  • Franklin County (until 10:30 p.m.)
  • Greene County (until 10:30 p.m.)
  • Hamilton County (until 10:30 p.m.)
  • Hardin County (until 10:30 p.m.)
  • Tama County (until 11 p.m.)
  • Wright County (until 10:30 p.m.)
