IOWA, USA — Local 5 has issued a Weather Impact Alert for Wednesday, July 31. These alerts help keep you informed of severe weather that will impact you.
A Heat Advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. for much of central and southern Iowa through the afternoon and evening hours. Temperatures are expected to read the low-to-mid 90s but the head index could reach 105° for many locations. Be sure to drink lots of water and take plenty of breaks from the heat outside.
Strong to severe storms are likely Wednesday evening between 8 p.m. and midnight. The possible threats for Wednesday include severe thunderstorms that produce hail, damaging winds and some flash flooding. Western Iowa is in a Level 3 risk for severe weather while the rest of the state is in a Level 2.
