DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department announced Thursday just after 8 p.m. that it was responding to a structure fire on SW 9th Street and Army Post Road to enforce a traffic closure while Des Moines firefighters worked to put out a fire.
According to a Local 5 photojournalist at the scene, the fire was at Owen Auto, a used car dealership.
Cpt. Randy Jones of Des Moines Fire Department said a car fire was originally called in at around 7:30 p.m.
It then spread to the second floor and roof of the building it began in.
There were no injuries, but Jones says the building is a total loss. The fire took around two hours to put out according to authorities and an investigation is ongoing.
Westbound Army Post Road from SW 9th Street to SW 11th Street were temporarily closed as crews worked on the fire, DMPD said.
Eastbound lanes were also reportedly closed so firefighters could hook up another fire hose.
