First responders said fishers identified what they believed to be a body around 7:15 p.m. Thursday.

PLEASANT HILL, Iowa — Pleasant Hill Fire Chief Jamie Xayavong told Local 5 that an unidentified body was recovered from the Des Moines River in Pleasant Hill near a boat ramp off of Vandalia Road Thursday evening.

Fishers near the boat ramp identified what they believed to be a body in the water and called first responders at 7:15 p.m.

Once emergency services were on scene, it took 15 minutes to recover the body.

At this time, officials do not know the gender of the individual, idea of foul play or whether this recovery is associated to an earlier water rescue.
