Greenbelt Music Festival

  • When: Friday, May 17, 2-11 p.m. and Saturday, May 18, 1-11 p.m.
  • Where: Horizon Events Center (2100 Northwest 100th St., Clive)
  • Price: $64

Nothing says spring like an outdoor music festival. This event takes place just off the Greenbelt Trail, overlooking lush trees and Walnut Creek.

Bring your folding chairs or a picnic blanket and enjoy games, activities, food and live entertainment from across the country. 

Iowa Hawkeyes baseball games

  • When: Thursday, May 16 and Friday, May 17 at 6:35 p.m.; Saturday, May 18 at 12:05 p.m.
  • Where: Principal Park (1 Line Dr., Des Moines)
  • Price: Tickets start at $10

You don't need to travel east to Iowa City to catch a Hawkeyes baseball game this season. The Iowa baseball team will face the Florida International Panthers at Principal Park this weekend.

Wear your black and gold to support Iowa athletes, including some players who hail from the Des Moines area.

Global Greens International Market

  • When: Saturday, May 18, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Where: 1907 Carpenter Ave., Des Moines
  • Price: Free to attend

Another weekend, another farmers' market to highlight! This week, check out the Global Greens International Market, organized by Lutheran Services in Iowa. Global Greens farmers are former refugees turned small business owners as they build new lives in the U.S., growing produce right here in central Iowa.

Baby Animal Days

  • When: Saturday, May 18 at 9 a.m. and Sunday, May 19 at 9 a.m. 
  • Where: Center Grove Orchard (32835 610th Ave., Cambridge)
  • Price: $9.95 if purchased in advance

Get ready to say "Awwwww!" Center Grove Orchard hosts this adorable event featuring baby goats, lambs, chicks, bunnies and more. Bring the whole family out to the farm to play with these tiny critters in a safe and welcoming environment. 

Valley Junction Arts Festival

  • When: Sunday, May 19, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Where: Historic Valley Junction (137 5th St., West Des Moines)
  • Price: Free to attend

50 artists will take over 5th Street in honor of the annual Historic Valley Junction Arts Festival. The event focuses on the juried exhibition of fine arts and crafts, allowing patrons to meet local artists and purchase original work.

The festival will also feature live entertainment, food vendors and of course, shopping opportunities at the various Valley Junction stores.
