One of the nicest chickens you'll ever meet! Floppy the rooster is available for adoption now at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa

The Animal Rescue League provides a temporary home for more than cats and dogs. The Second Chance Ranch is asking for donations of fly spray and fans this summer.

Floppy the rooster is, irrevocably, a feathered gentleman. He took well to his carrier, taking the time to primp for his first ever T.V appearance! On set, Floppy allowed the crew to pet and hold him, happy to show off his stunning looks. At just 3 months old, Floppy is expected to grow into a fine rooster.

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa is currently home to 7 roosters seeking their forever flock. Unfortunately, roosters tend to be long stay residents at Second Chance Ranch.

"Roosters have behaviors most people don't understand," explains Angie Worby, Second Chance Ranch Supervisor at the ARL. "Their nature is to protect their flock and their behavior can be seen as aggressive."

In reality, roosters like Floppy are a great addition to pasture-raised flocks. Not only can they help grow your flock, roosters also help keep hens safe and happy. Just keep in mind that a backyard coop might not be the best fit. Roosters can be noisy, and cities may enforce flock size restrictions.

This summer, The Second Chance Ranch is in need of lead ropes, fly spray, and fans. Community members can donate online via the Fetch! List or drop items off at the ARL main location.

Adoption fees have been lowered to just $35 for cats and dogs 6+ months old during the Red, White & Boops adoption event! All adoptions include a spay/neuter, vaccinations, and microchipping. This promotion is available at all ARL locations through Sunday.
