DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines City Manager Scott Sanders will not resign in fall as originally planned, Mayor Connie Boesen confirmed in a Wednesday email.
"Scott has pulled together the support he needs to remain successful in his role, and I look forward to his continued strong leadership in the years to come," Boesen's message reads in part.
The announcement comes just a month after Sanders announced he planned to leave the position this fall after nearly a decade serving the city.
When Sanders confirmed his resignation, Boesen said it was a "bittersweet time" but the hunt for his replacement had already begun.

Boesen shared Wednesday that she is "beyond grateful" for Sanders' recommitment to the role, including that she "personally sat with him through many tough discussions and watched him as he weighed all considerations carefully."
A city manager advises the city council, serves as the council's "chief negotiator" and supervises department directors.
