Waukee Police Department identifies man who drowned in pond

31-year-old Keith Bychinski of Earlham was working in the area of the Kettlestone Commons Ponds when he tried to recover a fishing pole for two boys.

WAUKEE, Iowa — The Waukee Police Department has identified the 31-year-old man who drowned last week at a pond while trying to recover a fishing pole from the water.

31-year-old Keith Bychinski of Earlham was working in the area of the Kettlestone Commons Ponds on Thursday, Aug. 8 when he tried to recover a fishing pole for two boys who were fishing at the pond.

Authorities said that the boys did not see the man go under the water as they had run for help.

A rescue crew searched a three-acre area that was 16 feet deep before recovering Bychinkski's body later in the evening.

"The Waukee Fire Department and the Waukee Police Department extend our deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Bychinski," the agency wrote on Monday. "Additionally, our thoughts are with the two young men who witnessed this horrific accident."
